The Story Behind The Moving Brain

“Let us not act out of fear and misunderstanding, but out of the values of inclusion, diversity and regard for all that make our country great” ~ Loretta Lynch

It started during my many years as a Clinician.
Seeing the all too common stress and fear my families experienced with planning and attending any social outing. Hearing the stories of outings being cut short by meltdowns, sensory issues. Strangers making negative comments. Going on vacation wasn’t even an option.
With therapeutic services concentrated in the school and home environments, the necessary social and community experiences were never addressed.
Many families were isolated with their children.
During my time as a volunteer on cruises assisting special needs families, I noticed how families were not only able to travel with their special needs children, but were able to ENJOY their vacations.
Many had never been on vacation. Some had not had a dinner alone with their partner since becoming parents. With therapeutic staff present, the impossible became possible.
This was great…..but what if this was expanded to provide support and resources to families with any type of social experience, whether it’s a local trip to the zoo or a trip across the globe?
This motivated me to create The Moving Brain.
The Moving Brain’s mission is to increase social & travel inclusion and support for special needs children & families. In addition to a growing online support community, we offer social skills groups, support groups, therapeutic travel materials, full service travel planning, therapeutic support for local events/outings and Autism/Special needs education to facilities.
We are a support and resource that emphasizes socialization and community connecting with a unique, multi- faceted approach. Using real life experiences with a therapeutic approach, we provide social learning experiences through local excursions, family and children groups and social planning services.

“My passion for The Moving Brain begins at home. Personally, I am a special needs parent. So I get it… the internal fears, questions and anxieties that parents can barely verbalize. What makes this organization special is that everyone operates on a higher level of empathy. We seek to understand first.” ~ K’Cee Horne
